Four local Girl Scouts earn the Silver Award for service projects.

Niamh Barret, Jessica Ford, Sophia Helm and Sydney Lieb of Troop 3025 of the Greater Los Angeles Girl Scouts earned the second-highest award for Girl Scouts, the Silver Award. Under the direction of troop leaders Susan Helm and Gini Vandergon, the girls completed different service projects.

Barret taught people at the Malibu Labor Exchange how to sew blankets from used clothing. Ford gathered books and donated them to a home for abused women. Sophia and Lieb sewed 40 backpacks filled with books for first- and second-graders. Each of the girls spent more than 50 hours on their projects.
