The Malibu Community Pool has reopened nearly a month and a half after the Woolsey Fire first began. As shared by the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District, a reverse osmosis treatment was used to purify the water following debris and ash from the fire. Based on water samples taken last week, a toxicologist has approved the safety of the pool water for use.
“In short, analysis of the pool water indicated that it was as clean, or cleaner than, drinking water,” the report, created by Forensic Analytical Consulting Services, said.
The water was tested for polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), volatile organic compounds (VOCs), total petroleum hydrocarbons and metals; the report said the levels of these contaminants found in the pool water were below the federal Environmental Protection Agency’s standard for drinking water.
