Douglas Victor Handal, beloved husband and father, of Malibu and Rancho Mirage, died peacefully on Christmas morning, Sunday, Dec. 25, 2016, at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles. He was 65.
Doug was born in New York on May 16, 1951, to Hilda and Victor Handal. At a young age, his family moved to New Rochelle, N.Y. where Doug attended Iona Preparatory from kindergarten to 12th grade. He then attended Georgetown University, graduating in 1972 with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, followed by a master’s degree in Business Administration.
Doug moved to Southern California to begin his career. He became a successful entrepreneur — involved with many industries throughout his life, including banking, wholesale apparel, and financial, and real estate investments.
In 1988, he married Aimee Voydat and, shortly thereafter, they began their family with the birth of their two sons, Stephen and James.
“His family was the source of Doug’s greatest joy,” a loved one wrote to The Malibu Times. “He found great pleasure in sharing his passions for golf and flying with his sons.”
Doug is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Aimee, sons Stephen and James, sister Diane, brother Ken (Mary Francina) and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Malibu Catholic Church.
