I’ve lived long enough to know that whenever the politicos in Sacramento get into trouble the cut has to be made in funding for the schools (40 years ago they couldn’t afford kindergarten classes), the Fire Department and the Police Department. I’ve lived long enough to know that taxes for six years become taxes forever.
Time and time again I’ve witnessed the divide and conquer tactic used. They couldn’t pass it last time so exempt the seniors and get them on our side. Next time we won’t exempt the seniors. It’s the rich against the poor, black against white and now old against young. Please don’t fall for it.
I sent my kids to Catholic school, but I support the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District. I’ve written checks to Juan Cabrillo and would do so again gladly. I support public schools by buying scrip for the ARCO station, supermarkets, restaurants, and others, but add $300 to everyone’s over-bloated tax bill? Never!
The amount of money that tricks down once Gray Davis and his cohorts get their hands on it will only ensure the schools will always be in dire need. The schools, firemen, and law enforcement issues put their greedy hands right into our pockets. If they guarantee every penny will go to the schools, I guarantee that an equal amount that would have gone to the schools will go somewhere else. Remember the lottery, folks. That solved all our education problems, right?
