Despite a winning start to their 2018 season, the Pepperdine University men’s volleyball team lost to UC Irvine Anteaters at home on Sunday, Jan. 14. The Anteaters won with set scores 25-21, 16-25, 25-19 and 29-27.
UC Irvine is currently ranked No. 5 while Pepperdine is ranked No. 10
Senior Alex Harthaller had a memorable performance, with a career-high 18 kills and five aces.
The Waves next host UC Santa Barbara at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20, at Firestone Fieldhouse. Prior to the match, they will hold a Marv Dunphy Volleyball Court dedication, in honor of the Waves’ head coach emeritus. Dunphy finished his final season as head coach in the 2016-17 year after 34 years of coaching.
