Traffic delays developing at 9:15 at Malibu Lagoon and the pier area … filming at Surfrider Beach.
Was it an unsafe U turn or a speeding motorcycle?? Whatever the cause … a biker is dead and his passenger badly hurt … on PCH at Leo Carrillo.
There’s filming on PCH at the Malibu Creek bridge this morning.
The sanctuary city issue returns to City Hall at another marathon meeting next Monday night.
And Passages Malibu gets hit with a 1 point 8 million dollar court judgment.
This is Malibu’s only local daily news.
It’s the Monday edition … from Radio Malibu …. 97 point 5 K B U.
Good morning Malibu!
——
The Surfrider Beach parking lot is closed today …. Warner Brothers has a permit to film there.
And there are signs up on PCH at the Malibu Creek bridge …. “Be prepared To Stop.”
Not sure if they have plans to actually close down PCH in the middle of Malibu … today … to film … but the signs are up.
P C H eastbound … just past Cross Creek … affected … maybe … by periodic stoppages for filming today.

Did an unsafe or illegal U-turn lead to the death of a motorcyclist on PCH west of Malibu Saturday???
Or was it a possibly speeding motorcycle … driving down the hill and around the curve at Leo Carrillo Beach??
Or .. a combination of factors?
Thats the question facing the California Highway Patrol investigators in the aftermath of Saturday afternoon’s fatal crash on PCH at Mulholland Highway.
36 year old William J. O’Hara of Los Angeles was on board a 2004 Yamaha R6. …. heading towards Malibu and coming around the curve at Leo Carrillo Beach.
A VW Jetta driven by a Los Angeles man — his name was not released — had pulled out of the campground and headed west on PCH.
At some point near Mulholland …. the VW driver attempted a U-turn.
The motorcycle came down the hill and around the curve hit it.
The driver was ejected and killed.
The passenger on the back at the bike … 28-year-old Stephanie Feng of Los Angeles ….
She was also thrown from the bike and critically injured.
She was a medivaced by LA County fire paramedics to Los Angeles hospital in critical condition.
The crash was at about 3:35 p.m. Saturday on PCH … just west of the Malibu city limits … which means the CHP is handling the investigation.
And as of yesterday … the CHP had not disclosed if it had cited the driver of the car.

The Malibu Planning Commission meets tonight at City Hall.
No major firestorms on the horizon there.
But the city council meeting a week from tonight looks like another marathon session.
The city will again try to take up the Sanctuary City issue … a proposal to ban the expenditure of Malibu city funds to assist the federal government enforce immigration laws.
Law enforcement in Malibu is handled by the sheriff’s office.
And the sheriff’s office has had a similar policy for decades.
Also on the agenda … the annual contract to turn over streets in western Malibu for two weekend mornings … to the Malibu Triathlon.
Nominations for the Malibu poet laureate position.
An agreement with L-A County on the burgeoning number of day camps on Malibu beaches.
Also … an item on allowing the Malibu Beach Hotel and other hotels to put their parking lots across P C H from their properties.
That last one is a little bit of a puzzle.
As we reported two weeks ago … the Malibu Planning Commission had asked city staff to take the plan back and do additional research … and then go back to the Planning Commission … not the City Council.
The Planning Commission has questions on the impacts on traffic on Pacific Coast Highway of having parking valets and pedestrians crossing back and forth across P C H.
Instead … it appears the city staff has taken the matter directly to the city council.
We’ll have more on this …. tomorrow.

Passages Malibu has been hit with a huge court judgment …. and the mistreatment of its workers was a central point.
The former human resources director of the Malibu-based rehabilitation center chain convinced the jury that she fired for reporting workplace violations.
Cynthia begazo says she was fired by Passages Malibu for voicing concerns that employees were not getting overtime or meal breaks.
A Los Angeles Superior Court jury deliberated for less than two hours Friday,.
Then it found for Begazo in her whistleblower and retaliation claims against Passages Malibu.
In addition to Passages Malibu … the defendants include Passages Malibu co-founders Chris Prentiss and his son, Pax Prentiss.
The same month she got the job …. Begazo says she informed Pax Prentiss that some maintenance workers, housekeepers and kitchen servers were not receiving overtime pay or meal or rest breaks, as required by state and federal laws.
She was told to ignore it … according to the lawsuit.
She was also ordered not to report the death of a patient at a passage center in Ventura to the proper authorities.
Passages Malibu advertises on television nationally, and runs a string of houses along the California coast that treat people for alcoholism and drug addiction.
Its headquarters is in a residential area near Paradise Cove in Malibu.
No comment from Passages late Friday.

It’s endorsed by the city council … and virtually every politician in the county.
Polls open tomorrow … and remember …. Malibu Park voters have been shifted over to the Point Dume Club this time … due to construction at the high school.
