Changing of the guard

In your column (Sept. 7) of last week, you anticipated “that all hell would break loose” following the abdication of seven Malibu Stage Company Board of Directors members. We trust that will not happen.

We now have in place four remaining members: Jackie Bridgeman, Lynn Dornhelm, Geoffrey Ortiz and Jody Stump. These stalwarts will be joined by newly elected board members: Stacy Keach, Corporate Attorney Deke Heyward and Playwright Sandra Heyward.

It is a misfortune that these departing members, who have been with the ten-year-old organization less than two years, have publicly stated that they were unable to fully support our fledgling theatre.

We thank these departing members for their past participation and their interest in establishing a theatre in Malibu. It is our belief that the freshly established board with backgrounds in theatre, public relations and management is wholly dedicated to the Malibu Stage Company and the community’s beautiful new theatre and are supportive of its artistic mission. This mission statement has always been presented to prospective board members and has been frequently published in our brochure and news release.

With a board skilled in negotiating and adept at cooperating with artistic temperaments, the Malibu Stage Company is now free to move forward with a unified, knowledgeable group of members whose responsibility will be the fulfillment of Malibu Stage Company’s promise to a community that has so generously contributed to its present existence.

We accept that responsibility.

Jackie Bridgeman

President emeritus
