Agnes Stevens, founder of School on Wheels, has been nominated for the “Children’s Nobel Prize” by the World’s Children’s Prize for the Rights of the Child. The WCPRC empowers children and young people all over the world so they can make their voices heard and demand respect for their rights in accordance with the United Nation’s Child Convention.
Stevens founded School On Wheels in 1993 to provide one-on-one tutoring for homeless children who live in shelters, motels, group foster homes and on the streets.
“I am honored to be recognized for my organization’s work on behalf of children,” said Stevens, who worked as a teacher for 30 years before starting School on Wheels. “Over 200,000 children are homeless in California and our hope is that our programs can serve as a consistent support system at a time of great stress and fear.”
