Malibu resident Ronie Howard Lundgren died on Feb. 13 after a brief struggle with cancer. She was 54 years old.
Born in 1945 to Howard and Ginger Guberman in New York City, Lundgren attended UCLA and California State University Northridge and taught junior high and elementary school in Oxnard for 30 years, retiring in 2001. The longtime Camarillo resident moved to Malibu to share a home with her husband John Lundgren, M.D., in 1995.
Known as a creative and passionate teacher, Lundgren practiced watercolor and writing through the Emeritus College at Santa Monica College in recent years. She was also an active weekly bridge player in the Malibu community.
In addition to her husband, John, Lundgren is survived by her step-daughter, Rachel Lundgren, M.D., her grandnieces Simone and Jackie Brady, and her four cousins, Neil Grill, New York City; Diane Penner, Caldwell, N.J.; Joanne Stecker, W. Palm Beach, Fla.; and Shelly Balloon, Culver City.
