More than 100 vendors will be at the Civic Center on Sunday for the 31st annual Malibu Lions Club Marketplace and Flea Market. The event will also include a pancake breakfast, Lions Dogs hotdogs, the popular Lions Club Lemonade and a barbecue. The event will raise money for the club, which has supported various causes in Malibu and elsewhere in its more than 50-year history.
The festivities will begin at 9 a.m. when the market opens and breakfast begins. For five dollars, customers can get pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee. Once the breakfast is gone, the Lions Dogs will be offered. The specialty hot dogs along with chips and drink will be offered for five dollars.
“They [Lions Dogs] were introduced last year,” Malibu Lions President Marc Goodman said. “They sold out. We are trying to make sure that doesn’t happen too quickly this year. There was a huge demand.”
Goodman said a variety of vendors will be at the event with a wide range of items to offer. They include antiques, crafts, jewelry, clothing and many more.
This is the lone major fundraiser of the year for the Malibu Lions. The money will be used for the club’s various causes. They include sponsoring Malibu Little League teams, sponsoring children to attend Camp Bloomfield for the sight impaired and an annual Christmas party for underprivileged children. This past year, the club also supported victims of the fires in Malibu.
“It goes to the motto [of Lions Club International], ‘We serve,'” Goodman said. “We take that seriously and want to serve our community.”
Founded in 1951, the Malibu Lions Club is a chapter of the Lions Club International. The group meets the first and third Wednesday of the month at 7:30 p.m. at Guido’s. Those interested in joining the club should contact Goodman at marc.goodman@pepperdine.edu.
