A single-car crash on Pacific Coast Highway early Wednesday morning left one dead and five injured, according to a press release by the Los Angeles Police Department. The crash occurred between Temescal Canyon Road and Sunset Boulevard, when a speeding 2002 Ford Focus hit a streetlight and then a wall shortly after midnight on Wednesday morning. A 35-year-old passenger was pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics. The car’s driver, an unlicensed 27-year-old woman, and a 15-year-old passenger were airlifted to a local hospital in critical condition. Excessive speed is listed as the cause of the accident.

Others injured and taken to the hospital included: a 10-year-old child with multiple factures, a 17-year-old with leg lacerations, and two children, ages six and one, with bruising. The press release states that drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the cause of the accident.
