In news from down the coast … Santa Monica is rewriting its Local Coastal Program for the Coastal Commission … and the L C P is giving coastal some gas.
Parking.
Coastal Commission staff say Santa Monica is cramming so much residential growth into buildings without parking spaces ,,, that beach access parking is disappearing.
The city says it is encouraging residential growth that does not spawn car traffic.
And the Coastal people say Santa Monica is not providing enough low cost hotel access to the beach as well.
Coastal staff suggest that overnight home rentals be encouraged in Santa Monica.
But the city staff there says B and B rentals are not cheaper than hotel rooms …. and are not the answer to increasing beach access.
The Santa Monica L C P goes to that city’s planning commission next week.
