LNG risks daunting

The Federal Government wants LNG to be built off our coast, a 14 story, three football wide monstrosity, around which a constant stream of Australian ships carrying frozen natural gas will anchor and unload. Then the skyscraper monster de-ices the frozen natural gas and puts it into a pipeline to our shores.

Oh yes, an undersea, underground pipeline from the monster 13 miles offshore will have to be laid in the ocean bed and then through our land. Is it safe? LNG says yes. However, they have had some explosions, one recently in the Middle East. Is it safe here?

Has the whole national and state government forgotten that the western U.S. coast is part of the Pacific Rim of Fire, a network of intersecting earthquake faults on the land and the sea floor? The Rim of Fire circles the west coast of the Americas and the East Coast of Asia around the Pacific Ocean. With this project, we only need the match strike of an earthquake to set off a major land and sea disaster.

The decision by the Federal Government has been yes, go ahead. Final comments to the state must be in by August 1. Write or call your representatives and the governor’s office. I will vote for none of the State candidates who have represented us if this goes through on the theory they are powerless or incompetent to reflect the will and safety of the people they represent.
