In a stunning victory, the Malibu High School boys varsity soccer team defeated Buckley, 4-1, at home in the second round of the playoffs. The Sharks were led by freshman Munny Manak with two goals on the night, and one apiece from sophomores Doug Bogie and Justin Saul.

The game was a hostile affair, with a Buckley player getting kicked out within the first 10 minutes, and Buckley parents storming the field to scream at the referees after a penalty was called. With a player ejected, Buckley was forced to play with only 10 players the rest of the game.

“It’s sad that we didn’t have the opportunity to beat them 11 on 11,” said head coach Dan Metcalfe. “We’re a better team, so I knew we were going to win”

Team captain Milton Alvarado added, “We played as a team, and we came out with the victory.”

With this victory, the Sharks head to the postseason quarterfinals on Thursday to take on Animo Leadership on the road at 3 p.m.

The Sharks boys varsity basketball squad came off of their 64-38 victory over Cornerstone Christian last week to take on Kern Valley on the road Tuesday. Following a more than three-hour bus ride, the Sharks kept their streak alive with an 87-68 victory in the quarterfinals.

The Sharks were led by seniors Ryan Walczuk and Chris Peck with 24 and 19 points respectively. Malibu also saw outstanding performances from sophomores Shya Mousavipour and Chandler Abbott with 18 and 14 points respectively.

With their victory, the Sharks are headed to the semifinals, the furthest a Malibu High basketball team has ever gone.

The Sharks will face Rosamond High School at a neutral sight, Oaks Christian High School (31749 La Tienda Drive in Westlake Village), on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
