The Malibu Foundation for Youth and Families held its annual fundraiser on May 31 at the home of Club Ambassadors Liane and Richard Weintraub. The gala featured live entertainment starring Kenny G and David Foster, both club ambassadors, included a special performance by Katharine McPhee and introduced the guests to young vocal artists Amber Carrington and Cody Karey. The event raised more than $300,000 that will be put directly toward operations for the Boys & Girls Club of Malibu Teen Center.
Guests were treated to a special culinary experience coordinated by chef Jennifer Naylor and featuring the food of renowned Los Angeles chefs Neal Fraser of Grace, David Myers of Sona and Comme Ca, and Pastry Chef Ramon Perez of Sona and Boule. Each course was paired with wines by Chris Carpenter of Lokoya Vineyards. At the end of the evening guests danced to the music of international DJ Max Chipchase.
Malibu Foundation President Daniel Stern was the master of ceremonies for the evening. He shared the urgency of accomplishing the goals of the foundation and celebrating the past success of its projects in responding to the needs of the youth and families of this community, particularly Boys & Girls Club of Malibu Teen Center, which provides after-school programs to more than 100 local teens daily and reaches more than 1,200 teens and families annually.
Club Ambassador Martin Sheen also spoke and shared his thoughts on the importance of caring for the children in our community. Bill Curtis, who served on the founding board of the Malibu Foundation and is CEO and Chairman of CurtCo Media and Robb Report, contributed to the revenue brought in during the evening by donating the Robb Report Live Auction.
Lending support for the evening were Club Ambassadors Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, Roma Downey and Mark Burnett, Nichole and John McGinley, Kelly Chapman Meyer and Lyndie Benson. Also in attendance were DeeAnna Staats, Tricia and Tony Griffin, Robyn Gibson, Lisa Rinna, Mary Hart, Cindy Landon, local entrepreneurs Stephen Berman, Richard Sperber and Ozzie Silna, and Malibu newcomers Mary Gerdts and Douglas McKinney.
