Farewell

More than 100 Malibu community members attended a memorial service and paddle-out for Jeff Alan Jones, a Malibu community member and avid cyclist who was struck and killed by a vanwhile riding in Los Angeles on Aug. 23.

Fr. Aidan Comerford offered a prayer of farewell, sharing words of support with all those who gathered at Zuma Beach for the memorial and paddle-out.

“I still can’t believe I’m never going to hug you goodbye again. It’s hard but I know you’d want me to keep a positive mental attitude—you always had one and told me to, too. Thank you for being my dad and my best friend. I love you so much… until we meet again, pops,” Jones’ son Max shared in the memorial program given to guests.

Following the memorial service, friends and loved ones of Jones grabbed their boards, many with flowers in hand, and paddled out past the break to memorialize their friend, with the help of LA County Lifeguards who used a firehose to salute Jones.
