=Surf of 3 to 5 feet with local sets to 6  feet is expected through tonight, highest on exposed south-facing beaches.

The maximum high tides will be around 6.5 feet  between 10 PM and 11 PM PDT this evening. There is a high risk  of strong rip currents during this time.

Elevated surf may persist through Tuesday afternoon.

Topanga Canyon Blvd remains closed at Entrada this morning.

A car went into power pole just before midnight.

And the latest estimate is that the road will be closed all day.

Power lines went down at 11:57 p-m juist north of topanga elementary school.

The school is accessible only from the south.

From the beach … Topanga Canyon Boulevard is open as far as the traffic light at old Topanga Canyon Rd.

Power lines were sparking for more than a half hour.

But there was no brush fire.

——

A brush fire was ignited yesterday afternoon … up in Santa Susanna Pass.

A car there went off the road … and hit power lines … downing them.

LA city firefighters say a passenger vehicle tumbled off Santa Susana Pass Rd, toppling a power pole and downing energized high voltage wires before catching fire.

The driver was able to climb out of the burning vehicle and up a brush covered hillside.

An L A Police officer  scooped him away from greater harm as the flames spread;

The injured driver had serious,  2nd and 3rd degree burns to hands, arms and legs.

The brushfire was held two 8 1/2 acres just south of the 118 freeway near Rocky Peak.

LA County’s Board of Supervisors want to freeze rents the unincorporated sections of the area … including Malibu.

The board will vote tomorrow on a proposal to place a temporary limit on rent level increases and evictions without just cause. Th eordinance would establish a maximum rent increase amount to three percent for rental properties in the unincorporated areas of the County.

The freeze would be for six months.

Some sort of due process would be established to ensure that property owners are entitled to a fair and reasonable return on their property;.

But rent levels as of tomorrow …  September 11th …  would become the benchmark for determining a fair and reasonable return.

The ordinance would affect unincorporated Los Angeles County only … including the mountains surrounding Malibu.

But would not be in effect within Malibu city limits.

The Santa Monica Mountains national recreation area make it a lot bigger soon.

Congressman Adam Schiff has proposed a bill to include the Rim of the Valley Corridor in the national recreation area.

This would include additional parts of the parts of the Santa Monica Mountains … but also the Santa Susanna Mountains near Simi Valley … the Verdugo Mountains above Burbank and Glendale … the San Rafael Hills .. all of the mountains between Malibu and the San Gabriel Mountains.

That’s 170,000 acres … a huge boundary adjustment to Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area

The recommended area does not include any areas of the Angeles National Forest or San Gabriel Mountains National Monument.

It would allow allow local agencies … like the MRCA … to use Federal resources to maintain, improve, and preserve many parks, hiking trails, and mountain ranges used by the public.

The bill does not authorize the use of eminent domain to acquire land or interests in land.

The MRCA … the mountains recreation conservation authority … already has undertaken a extensive land acquisition efforts in the rim of the Valley.

Many Malibu residents feel that the MRCA is extremely controversial here in Malibu for using strong arm tactics … to wrest Control of private property for public park uses.

And this political note … expanding the Santa Monica Mountaisn National Recreation Area was first proposed by the Obama administration.

The congressman supporting it is Adam Schiff … rankign democrat on the House Investigations Committee.

Good luck with that.
