THURS MALIBU FIRE NOTES (Updated 3:56, 4:55, 5:47, 6:47, 7:06, 8:06, 9:36 AM and 5:10 PM)
 
KBUU News headlines 5:10 Thursday afternoon:
 
– Malibu public schools will not be in session Friday. Santa Monica schools will resume. SMC planning to be in session. All subject to change.
 
– County fire suspects power line issue caused the brushfire this morning above the Malibu Park neighborhood, on the ridge north of Malibu High. Edison crews are repairing downed lines from poles that were not burned, indicating a line failure in 50 mph plus winds. State regulations are that those lines must not fail below 92 mph unless they are hit by debris.
 
– The Skirball Fire at the 405 Sepulveda Pass is essentially out, with 20 percent containment but no active fire observed.
 
– LA City and LA County, under joint command, immediately diverted air tankers (Superscoopers) and water-dropping helicopters from the 405 Freeway Fire to Malibu, as they were needed and used here.
 
– US 101 to Santa Barbara open with CHP escort, prepare for long wait or possible closure.
 
– Fire in Murrieta area essentially out, but there’s a bad fire just south of Temecula in San Diego County: 20 buildings burned near Bonita.
 
– A Malibu High School counselor, her husband and baby lost everything in the Thomas Fire in Ventura two days ago. AMPS is publicizing a fundraising drive. Dig deep, Malibu.
