Thought I’d take a moment of elation and congratulate the citizens of this town for soundly defeating Measure M. Again, democracy in all its glory was manifest. Despite a torrent of obviously well-financed lobbying and marketing blitzes, complete with colorful billboard sized signs that “eco-minded children” created, Malibu Citizens saw through Measure M and sent it to defeat.
This is no time for gloating, however, and I call on all of Malibu to come together and address how we systematically go about getting the ball fields for the kids and how we acquire the Chili Cook-Off site and turn it into a true “Crown Jewel.”
What could be better than project that returning that land back into a restorative wetlands project that will be the pride of our city and Santa Monica Bay? A park that we can all go to for inspiration and recreation, and, frankly, I’m still hoping that great park will be called Perenchio Park.
I say let’s all pull together without acrimony and move aggressively forward to mold a Malibu that holds open space and clean air dearly while at the same respecting the property rights of the MBC.
