Like all citizens I am concerned about the possibility of us going to war. As long as we are dependent on oil from the Middle East, we will be funding Al Qaeda and dictators like Saddam Hussein, allowing them to continue buying and making weapons and conducting terrorist acts.

Here are a few suggestions: Write a letter to the president, senators and other representatives asking them to switch to hydrogen as soon as possible. Hydrogen is nonpolluting, if it’s manufactured in an environmentally safe manner, and it can be produced here in the United States using sunlight, wind, hydro electricity, corn, natural gas, coal, etc. We already have the technology to do this, but the government has to lead the way to put the infrastructure in place.

Switching to hydrogen would give people employment and give the U.S. back its self-respect. The United States has always been the leader in technology, and if we allow ourselves to be complacent now we will perish.

I know that this is a lot to ask, but I would also like the residents of Malibu to choose one day a week without driving. We can all do this individually. It doesn’t have to be done simultaneously. If you are in the market for a new car, consider buying a fuel-efficient car. Please consider these practical suggestions.
