Shane Robert Casey was killed July 30 by an alleged hit-and-run driver while riding his motorcycle in Vista, Calif. He was 27. A suspect turned himself in to the North County Sheriff’s Department, but he later pleaded not guilty in Superior Court. He remains in a detention facility while awaiting trial.

Born April 9, 1977, Casey lived in Malibu for most of his life. He moved to Vista three years ago and worked at Classic Car Showcase in Oceanside as a technician. Casey restored classic, collectable cars such as Ferraris, Porsches and Jaguars.

Casey was a respected artist. As an eighth-grader, he was a runner-up in a contest to design the Malibu city logo. Casey was also an avid surfer, with his favorite places to surf being County Line and Leo Carillo.

Casey is survived by his parents, Larry and Carol, brothers, Tony and Patrick and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
