Letter: Needless Traffic Delay After PCH Fire

On Wednesday, I had to go to the doctor in Santa Monica for a special procedure. I always leave early, so I am not late. An hour-and-a-half early with a good book?

Wrong! It took me two hours and 40 minutes to go 30 miles. I can get to grandkids in Carlsbad in less time! Why did it take me that long? There had been a fire the day before between Temescal and Chatauqua.

The fire was out the day before, with not one smoldering ember left. They closed three lanes, one north and two south for rush hour traffic. Wrong way, fellows! Most of the traffic goes south in the morning and reverse in the evening.

Why close any lanes a full day after the fire is out? Why close so many lanes? Why close them in the wrong direction? They could easily change the direction with the cones. Government logic, I guess. This is one reason I am frustrated with much of government. I love police and firemen.
