I would like to offer my support to Debra Bianco and Malibu Agricultural Project/Cornucopia and their embattled farmer’s market. Debra is a close personal friend and I have watched for over a year as she has put her heart into getting the Farmer’s Market up and running again. I have also enjoyed the farmer’s market as a Malibu resident.
Cornucopia has been working on the Farmer’s Market since 1998, before which the City of Malibu would not allow any farmer’s market to be conducted. For some time now the market has struggled to obtain permits and has received negative press. Among the criticism is that Debra Bianco collected a salary. Debra was paid only one year, and has put her personal finances into the organization. Cornucopia has been doing community service in the form of environmental education but has discontinued these services because the majority of the organization’s funding comes from the farmer’s market.
Please contact the City of Malibu (310-456-2489) and voice your support for Cornucopia’s Farmer’s Market. There is only room in Malibu for one farmer’s market and Debra Bianco and other dedicated Cornucopia members have been working hard to get their market up and running again.
