The following letter was addressed to City Council.
Does it mean that I, a 29-year Malibu citizen and member of the Malibu United Methodist Church, along with others of like mind, may now petition to create an island in Malibu Park, which will include our church, Juan Cabrillo and Malibu High schools, that will restrict through traffic on Morningview Drive because I feel it will endanger the children both at our church nursery school and the public school? And, that the residents of, and visitors to the Malibu Park area must now be inconvenienced and circumvented in order to reach their homes or wherever because of the desires of a few? Hmmm. Sounds like it’s already been done in the Civic Center area of Malibu.
Just what were you thinking? There are few alternate routes in Malibu for ordinary traffic situations, much less the extraordinary ones, which are more and more commonplace all the time as more traffic loads up PCH. Now our alternate Civic Center Way is closed off, and why? So that a few citizens can now live on a cul-de-sac because the traffic is too dangerous? Welcome to the real world, folks. No one forced those citizens to choose their homes, they did.
And as for the safety of our school children, why haven’t the school district and parents, the city and Our Lady of Malibu banded together to devise a plan to be reckoned with, one that might include a daily law enforcement presence? We must protect our children and our citizens, but we also must do what’s best for the whole, not just a few.
