Letter: Keeping shops here

I agree totally with Arnold York’s editorial of Oct. 4 [“Guido’s Restaurant is going to close, perhaps now, perhaps later”] with some exceptions. Your reference to Granita Restaurant, which never had a place in Malibu for several reasons, although it is sad that it has not been developed and looks an eyesore.

Second, it is not only Guido’s but the exodus of so many other businesses, especially the lovely pet shop, the great book shop and now Guido’s. It is impossible to replace these as they have grown up with us and our kids and had a unique charm.

Of course, government regulation would be worse than useless and like everything else expensive for us and ineffective. What is the answer to this? I think the local residents and our newspaper have to be vociferous in protecting our beautiful city.
