Longtime local Matthew McConaughey was awarded the prestigious American Cinematheque Award.

Malibu’s Matthew McConaughey joined a long list of locals when he was awarded the 28th annual achievement award by the American Cinematheque in Beverly Hills. The impressive roster includes Robert Downey Jr., as well as Steven Spielberg, Bruce Willis, Julia Roberts, Mel Gibson and Rob Reiner.

American Cinematheque chairman Rick Nicita had high words of praise for the acclaimed actor calling him “the epitome of what a Hollywood star should be — an adventurous, joyous and ever-growing talent combined with matinee-idol looks and an unshakeable sense of who he is and what he stands for.”

The starry evening traced M.M.’s career from a memorable debut in “Dazed and Confused,” through thrillers like “A Time to Kill,” and period pieces such as “Amistad.”

That’s quite a range, but Matt’s career was just beginning. He went on to appear in everything from hit romantic comedies like “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” to the gripping drama “True Detective” and his Academy Award-winning performance in “Dallas Buyers Club.”

No doubt about it, he’s been on a roll — so much so that pal and show host Jimmy Kimmel turned his winning streak into a punch line. He noted Matt’s motto “Just keep livin’,” and to that he added “we are trying, but it’s hard to find the time when we’re giving you an award every two weeks.”

His next out-of-this-world flick, “Interstellar,” will be in theaters any day. So what can you say, other than congrats and a howdy all right, all right, all right to Master Matt.

WILL ’BU GO GAGA?

Back in the day, Malibu was pretty much free of celebrity photographers. Cher, Dick Van Dyke and Shirley MacLaine had no worries. All that changed in the early 2000s when sexy songbird Britney Spears moved into town.

All of a sudden, I found myself going into our local market and being mowed down by a flock of paparazzi.

“Is the Pope in town?” I inquired while being elbow jabbed. I was abruptly told to make way for Kevin Federline, then the Malibu bunkmate of Britney and gossip cover of the moment. Kim Kardashian, Jessica Simpson and others soon followed.

Will things change when pop sensation Lady Gaga picks up her ocean-view $23 million gated villa? The mega star just purchased an elaborate pad complete with a 800-bottle wine cellar.

More celebrity pics and commotion? Who knows? But her new place comes completely equipped with bowling alley so don’t be surprised if Lady G just might pick up a strike and a spare.
