4.4 Earthquake Hits Southern California

An earthquake measuring 4.4 in magnitude struck the Los Angeles area, including Malibu, early Monday morning, according to the United States Geological Survey.

The quake was reported at 6:25 a.m. and was centered about 5.6 miles northwest of Westwood. An initial reading measured it as 4.7 in magnitude but the USGS later downgraded its strength. There were no reported injuries and no structural damage occurred.Â
