Sheriff’s deputies and the city say a group of bikers is getting out of hand …

They’ve been illegally shutting down P C H for 15 minutes at a time … and taking over Bluffs park.

Malibu’s planning commission says it doesn’t know what to do … with a huge house proposed for Point Dume.

And the county is cracking down on the overnight R-Vs parked along P C H east of town.

This is Malibu’s only local daily news.

It’s the   ((((  Tuesday  ))) edition of the news … from Radio Malibu  …. 97 point 5 K B U.

Good morning Malibu!

Is a showdown with lawbreaking bikers looming on P C H???

L A County sheriffs want to shut down lawbreaking by an huge group of motorcyclists…. who have in years past turned the central park of Malibu into a trashy and loud booze party.

The bikers have been staging a road rally … from Ventura County to Malibu … every year for three years now.

The Run To The Flags terminates at the city owned Bluffs Park with a massive party … cash bars … loud music and trash lots of trash.

The motorcade has gotten large … too big for the LA County Sheriffs Department,.

Last year …. bikers took 15 minutes to clear each intersection from Trancas down to Bluffs.

It took hours to sort out traffic at P C H at Malibu Canyon Road … and there was a crash there in all the confusion.

The city says the Bluffs Park party has resulted in all sorts of problems.

Trucks driving across the field … and the park closed for nearly a week while set up and clean up take longer than the permit allows.

The city notes that the bikers have closed PCH on busy Sundays without permits.

And this year … the applicant has stated that they intend to forcibly close intersections and do not want to follow the rules of the road … as required by the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department.

The permit for this year’s biker party is at city hall …. and staff is aksing the city council how t proceed.

It’s on the agenda for Monday.

Should a very large house … on a very large lot … be allowed if it changes the neighborhood’s character?

The city planning commission last night decided …. that they do not know.

A landowner on Portshead Road was told by the planning commission … wait a month and let’s see what the city council will do.

The proposed house … at 88 hundred square feet … is in a neighborhood of much smaller houses … around 32 hundred square feet.

Only one neighbor protested … Beatrix Linkus

CUT 77288 QQQQ: teardown value only.

“It’s too big.

“The house is going to be the biggest one in the neighborhood by 30 percent.

“It will adversely affect the neighborhood because now the smaller houses in the area will be reduced to their teardown value, only.”

Planning commissioners said they were confused by the city council … which earlier this summer cited neighborhood character and rejected a large house off Via Acero … which otherwise met all the rules … because its size was out of character with the neighborhood.

Commission John Mazza complained … that the city staff did not examine the neighborhood character on Portshead when it brought this house to the Planning Commission.

Here’s Mazza and Planning Director Bonnie Blue.

CUT 77289

MAZZA: “As far as I’m concerned the thing we are looking tonight at is neighborhood character, and you’re sying you have not analyzed that?”

BLUE: “I think that part of the complexity of this issue is that neighborhood character isn’t defined, and it is a subjective question.”

So, the city council is set to hash out neighborhood character … and the mansionization of Malibu … later this month.

Commissioners suggested to the applicant … Christoper Murphy .. that he wait four weeks to see what the city council will do.

That went over liek a lead balloon … as Murphy pointed to his teenaged daughter in the audience and objected.

PORTSHEAD 3333 Q: what if what if what if. (3x)

“She’ going to be moving pretty soon, she’s going to college.

i wanted this to be the home that, that when she’s a grown woman, she’s talking to her kids about, talking about the house that she grew up in, it’s THIS house.

And we played by the rules, we played by the rules when we bought this place, I thought we were playing by the rules, and now we’re like, ‘well what if? What if? What if?’ “

The Portshead house will be decided on in four weeks …. maybe.

L-A County is finally acting to remove the ramshackle R-V park that has been springing up on the P-C-H east of Malibu.

The county is going through the coastal commission hoops to put up signs … to ban overnight parking.

The county just put up signs inviting passersby to attend a public hearing on September Fifth … where the county will ask itself for a Coastal Development Permit to install signs,

The signs will say no parking between midnight and 5 a-m.

Earlier this year … up to 30 R-Vs were parked along the P C H just east of the Malibu city limits.

The county has dispatched social workers to help homeless people find permanent lodgings.

Most of them have moved on.

Now the county proposes to put up and enforce the midnight to 5am parking ban … along P C H at Topanga Beach …. and west of the city at Leo Carrillo beach.

A young male mountain lion from the back country above Malibu … has made it across three different freeways to get out of the constricted local real estate scene

The National Park System says the cougar … P-55 … dashed across the 101 Freeway at the Conejo Grade … in the early hours of July 30th.

He then managed to cross the 23 and 118 freeways …. on his quest to find new turf.

He’s now roaming the Santa Susanna Mountains north of Simi Valley.

That’s very unusual … researchers say most of the mountain lions who try to cross the freeways turn back … a few try and get hit by cars.

Here’s a great movie of P-55 skritching his neck and dropping his scent … https://www.flickr.com/photos/santamonicamtns/36261133072/in/photolist-XfgMxw-TAFk8Q

Caltrans has been repairing the road cut on the P C H at Latigo Beach.

Withour advance notice … the state has been removing accumulated rock and dirt at the bottom of the big cliff … between Corral Canyon Road and Latigo Beach Road.

We’ve seen half hour delays develop on westbound P C H … withe traffic backed up all the wat to Pepperdine.

It appears htis work is about half done.

And we can assume there will be delays on the westbound P C H again later today.
