Conflicting word this morning … on what exactly is going to happen on Latigo Canyon Road.

We do know this:

Southern California Edison plans to be using a crane and other heavy equipment on Latigo Canyon Road … blocking lanes … from 9 this morning until 6 tonight.

The county highway department says one lane will be open … the city of Malibu send out a press release last night that says the entire road will be closed.

The project is planned for Latigo Canyon Road between Ocean View Drive and Calicut Road.

This poses a dilemma for the several dozen houses in upper Latigo Canyon … there’s no other way on or out of their neighborhood.

That’s because Latigo Canyon Road remains closed up at the top of the mountain … near Kanan Dume Road … six months after the Woolsey Fire.

Notice of the road closure or lane closure or whatever it is went out late yesterday afternoon.

Good luck to residence or work crews trying to get up Latigo Canyon today.

A small study done by the Malibu Chamber of Commerce paints a bleak picture for local businesses following the Woolsey Fire.

23 businesses responded to a survey sent out by the Chamber … not exactly a statistically-valid polling on the Malibu business community.

The majority of responding businesses report a significant business loss from the fire.

10 of the 23 repsonsing businesses say they have lost up to half of their busioness,

Another eight experienced more than a 50 percent loss over last year’s numbers.

The fire wiped out nearly 500 properties within Malibu city limits, and drove many permanent and part-time residents from their homes for weeks or month
