Malibu High School Senior Franklin “Frankie” Churchill was honored last week by the United States Marine Corps, earning a prestigious NROTC scholarship, which will pay for four years of tuition to any four-year university.

“It’s very highly competitive—we’re looking for young men and women who apply for this scholarship—someone who already possesses initiative, leadership, discipline,” Staff Sgt. Leyendecker, Churchill’s recruitment officer, said.

According to Leyendecker, Churchill’s accomplishments include academic achievement, physical fitness, community involvement and leadership skills.

Not only is Churchill’s achievement a personal success—it represents an achievement for his parents, Malibu High School and the Marine Corps, where he will become an officer after college.

“I’m excited for the Marine Corps for the quality of individual they’re going to be receiving when he graduates in four years,” Leyendecker said. “He’s the type of man they’ll be proud to have in their ranks.”
