About 40 firefighters doused a blaze at an apartment complex on Las Flores Canyon Road just north of Pacific Coast Highway on Friday afternoon, which caused an estimated $150,000 in damages. The fire gutted one apartment, destroyed nearly all the renter’s belongings and caused smoke damage to the hallways, but was quickly contained before it could spread to the other units. Fire officials believe an unattended candle may have started the blaze.
Las Flores Canyon Road was closed for hours, wreaking havoc on traffic coming down the canyon toward PCH.
