Citing “uncertainties about the availability of all parties and agencies central to the issue of the contamination” at Malibu schools, the city’s leaders canceled a town hall forum scheduled for this week.

Mayor Pro Tem John Sibert and Councilwoman Laura Rosenthal appear to have struggled to get all stakeholders on board for Thursday night’s meeting.

“Despite everyone’s best efforts, we could not guarantee that this event would offer the full discussion and presentation of information that parents and other school community members need and was our goal,” Rosenthal said in a press release.

They first agreed to organize the town hall amid pressure from parents who wanted the city to take on a larger role in the ongoing health concerns being raised at Malibu High, Middle School and Juan Cabrillo Elementary.

Rosenthal and Sibert said they will continue to help disseminate information on testing results and environmental conditions to parents and stakeholders so they can “make their own decisions.”
