The 24th Annual Seaside Luncheon, Boutique and Tennis Classic will take place Oct. 26, benefiting Malibu High School. This year, the money will go toward covering the school’s everyday needs, such as teacher’s supplies, textbooks, photocopying and the monthly newsletter, to name a few items. The event drew a crowd of 125 last year, and the Parent Teacher Student Association is hoping to attract at least 150 supporters this year.

Stone Manor, the private Malibu residence of the Lindsay family, will play host to the fundraiser’s multiple activities which will begin at 11 a.m. Several boutiques will showcase the handiwork of local vendors, who will be selling jewelry, handbags, tablecloths and more. Fiona Corrigan, the PTSA committee member in charge of the fundraiser, said the vendors were chosen because they have been popular in the past.

Lunch will be provided by local catering company “Truly Yours.” Corrigan said the PTSA is encouraging attendees to donate food items, especially desserts. Any individual or business that contributes to the lunch will be recognized, she said.

A live and silent auction featuring well-known Malibuite Kevin Montgomery will offer supporters the chance to win several prizes. A four-night, five-day stay in a Utah condo is up for grabs, as well as two VIP passes to Vegoose, The Second Annual Las Vegas Festival. This Halloween extravaganza takes place from October 27-31, and will feature Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Widespread Panic, The Killers, The Mars Volta, The Black Crowes and Fiona Apple, to name a few acts. Bids can be placed on these prizes before the day of the fundraiser by contacting Fiona Corrigan at fionacorrigan@mac.com.

The Pepperdine University Crest Association will be providing courts for the Tennis Classic, and will also offer refreshments for the players. The tournament begins at 8:30 a.m., and is open to everyone in the community. In the past, the tennis tournament was for women only, but men are invited to show off their backhand skills this year as well. Corrigan said that participating in the tennis tournament is optional, and that supporters can choose to just browse the boutiques and enjoy the luncheon if they prefer.

“This fundraiser is one of Malibu’s most enjoyable traditions-a great way to have lunch with friends, take a little friendly exercise, shop, enjoy the silent and live auctions, and all the while make much needed money for the school,” Corrigan said.

More information and an invitation to the event can be obtained by contacting Terri Potts at 310.457.3972, or at teepotts@aol.com. Space is limited, and reservations must be postmarked by Oct. 19. Tickets to the luncheon are $45 per person, and tickets to both the tennis tournament and the luncheon are $60 per person.
