Former Malibuite, Patricia (Patty) Jackson Crawford, 72, died June 4 at her home in McMinnville, Ore., after being diagnosed with a brain tumor March 30. She was surrounded by her loving family, husband Bob, son Brehan, his wife Jocela and “adopted” daughter Sara. Younger siblings Kit, Chris, and Andy said their last goodbyes in May, and though they wanted to be with her in person at the end, they said they were with her in spirit.

Crawford was born May 24, 1941 in Santa Monica to Joanne Reid and Allan Jackson, also former Malibuites. She grew up in Southern California and Phoenix, Ariz., before moving to lower Zumirez in 1962.

Crawford attended St. Monica’s and St. Paul the Apostle elementary schools, Ramona Convent High School and College of the Holy Names. She didn’t graduate, but returned to Linfield College in Oregon at 58 and graduated at 60 with her Bachelor of Arts.

In the early 1960s, Crawford worked at Mayfair Market (now Ralphs). At six feet tall, her beauty and kind ways were unforgettable, according to friends and family.

C r a w f o rd moved to McMinnville in 1976 and became involved in the local community. Throughout her adult life she wore many hats before finding her calling as a mediator. She was the Director of Your Community Mediators in Yamhill County, Ore. from 1994 to 2001. She retired in 2004, and in 2008 she co-founded Give A Little to help those in need. Crawford devoted much of her time, energy and boundless love to helping family and friends through difficult times.

“Her amazing and luminous unconditional love and support transformed countless lives; spreading love and peace was her priority,” Crawford’s family wrote.

Since mother Joanne’s death in 1990, Crawford was the beloved matriarch of the Jackson family.

For many years, Crawford and her husband vacationed in Malibu every summer. Her final Malibu visit was in October 2012. After nearly 40 years in McMinnville, she still loved Malibu and a part of her will always remain here.

“To all who knew her, she was an angel, one of a kind, irreplaceable,” Crawford’s family wrote.
