After 23 years with Phil Cott at the helm, Webster Elementary School has a new principal: Susan Samarge-Powell.
The Santa Monica-Malibu School District Board of Education approved her hiring at the board’s meeting on June 6. Samarge-Powell has worked with SMMUSD for 17 years, according to a press release from SMMSD.
Samarge-Powell was both a teacher and assistant principal at Will Rogers Elementary and in 2008 became Director of BTSA (Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment) for SMMSD. While working for the district, Samarge-Powell developed and implemented all training that new teachers receive in their first two years with SMMUSD.
In 2010, Samarge-Powell served as an interim principal at Webster Elementary.
According to the SMMUSD press release, Samarge-Powell goal is to fulfill the Wester vision statement: “To work together with staff, parents and community members to create a joyous and caring learning environment in which all students are supported, challenged and successful.”
