Steer a straight course

After reading about the big brouhaha regarding the Perenchio golf course, we feel obliged to set the record straight. The property was for years a huge unsanitary snake infested garbage dump. When it was purchased, cleaned up and fenced, it became a thing of beauty for which all of us in Malibu should be everlastingly grateful to Mr. Perenchio.

We feel that blatant politics are behind the push to convert his immaculate ten-acre property back into a public wasteland and do not for a moment believe the rhetoric about the harm that is being caused by a small pitch and putt course. The Malibu Lagoon and Surfrider Beach have been polluted since the 60s, long before any golf course showed up. There were not wetlands where the golf course stands, just the aforementioned “snake infested garbage dump.”

Some of the outspoken activists who would like to give Mr. Perenchio’s golf course away would be well advised to heed the famous words of Abraham Lincoln. “Property is the fruit of labor; property is desirable, is a positive good in the world. That some should be rich shows others may become rich, and hence is just encouragement to industry and enterprise. Let not him who is houseless pull down the house of another, but let him work diligently and build one for himself, thus by example assuring that his own shall be safe from violence when built.”

Let us keep this property from the wrecking ball. Contact the Coastal Commission and your local council members.
