The Malibu High School girls’ varsity basketball team played two games last week, both of which ended in defeat for the Sharks.

Malibu lost the first game against Brentwood’s Marymount Sailors 49-37. After trailing by 12 points, the Sharks rallied to tie the score in the third quarter but the Sailors sealed the win in the fourth. Guard Danielle Bush made five 3-point shots (a season high) and led the Sharks with 21 points.

In their second game, the Sharks lost to the undefeated Santa Clara Saints, 46-34. Malibu’s Danielle Bush and center Dominique Magee each scored 10 points, and forward Sierra Zontelli contributed strong rebounding along with two field goals.

The Sharks’ Head Coach Andy Meyer said, “I scheduled these two games against very highly regarded teams in the middle of our league play so the girls could play some hard competition to prepare them for the balance of our league schedule”.

Next, the Sharks will face Santa Paula and Carpinteria on their homecourt.
