Trumann Gettings exemplifies what it means to be a good citizen through his activities in the community, helping others, and displaying a strong sense of character. With a positive attitude and a smile on his face, Gettings serves as a role model in the classroom and on campus. His enthusiasm is contagious, helping to brighten others’ days.
While he is perhaps the tallest student on campus, those who know Gettings describe him as someone who has a quiet gentleness about him. His is looked up to by many of the younger students, whom he helps and plays with as though he was their older brother. Gettings displays this big brother mentality toward many students, including his kindergarten buddy, kids in Homework Club and on the playground, as well as his friend with special needs on the school’s Shane Inspiration field trip.
“It is wonderful to see the smiles he brings to these little one’s faces, as they realize they have a friend who will always look out for them,” teacher Kristina London wrote of him.
Gettings also works to help people in need, both in his community and around the world. He recently helped organize a schoolwide sock and underwear drive to help the organization “Made in the Streets,” which helps rescue and support children from the streets in Kenya.
Gettings is described as a student with a strong sense of character who leads by example and is respected by his peers.
“He is honest, kind and has a heart of gold,” London wrote. “He consistently tries to make things easier for others around him, and his classmates then try to do the same. He makes good choices, and does the right thing whether anyone’s watching or not.”
