Injured hiker at Paramount Ranch

A 22-year-old Northridge woman was evacuated from an area at Paramount Ranch late Sunday morning after reportedly straying from a trail and fracturing her ankle.

The injured hiker was reportedly hiking with her father when they strayed off the “Coyote Trail” at Paramount Ranch, according to Malibu Search and Rescue team leader David Katz.

Malibu SAR responded to an injured hiker call at 11:32 a.m. Sunday. Together with L.A. County Fire personnel and National Park Rangers, Malibu SAR discovered the hiker “well off trail and perched in a heavily wooded and brush laden area that would complicate her extrication and transport,” Katz said.

Upon reaching the hiker, fire paramedics tended to her injury, while Malibu SAR placed her into a rescue litter. Rescuers carried the hiker for an hour due to difficult terrain before reaching a safe location where she could be evacuated to a hospital.
