Deputies responded to Malibu Road Wednesday afternoon after reports of a body in the water
Investigators with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department are investigating the death of a man whose body was discovered along the Malibu coastline Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 9. According to information provided by sheriff’s officials, deputies responded shortly before 3:30 p.m. to the 24600 block of Malibu Road after receiving a report of a body in the water. Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel also responded to the scene. The man was pronounced dead at the location. Authorities have not publicly identified the man, and his age was not immediately available. The circumstances surrounding his death and how long he may have been in the water also remain unclear.
As of Wednesday evening, investigators had released few additional details about the discovery. The cause and manner of death have not been announced, and authorities have not indicated whether there were any immediate signs of foul play. The investigation remains active. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner is expected to determine the man's identity and cause of death following an examination and notification of next of kin. The incident comes as Malibu's coastline has experienced unusually hazardous ocean conditions in recent days following the remnants of Tropical Storm Marie. High surf, powerful breaking waves and dangerous rip currents prompted repeated warnings and temporary beach closures this week. Authorities have not indicated whether Wednesday's death was connected to the recent ocean conditions.
Separate reports referencing human remains in the Malibu Canyon area should not be assumed to be connected to Wednesday's discovery on Malibu Road unless authorities confirm a connection.
The Malibu Times will continue to follow the investigation and provide updates as additional information, including the man's identity and cause of death, becomes available.
