Malibu beaches are temporarily closed Tuesday morning, Sept. 8, due to lightning in the area as thunderstorms continued to move along the coast. At approximately 9:45 a.m., officials announced the temporary closure and advised beachgoers to stay out of the water and follow instructions from lifeguards, the Los Angeles County Fire Department and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The closure will remain in place until the thunderstorm and lightning threat has passed and conditions are considered safe. Officials said beaches will reopen as soon as conditions allow. Beachgoers should continue to use caution and follow directions from public safety personnel.
The Malibu Times will provide updates as more information becomes available.
