A kind word for candidates

Well, the circus that is coming to town with the election of the City Council members is upon us. The election that is coming has the “no growthers.” The Kellers, Efrom Faders and who is John Mezza? I haven’t heard of him before. We have a new newspaper in town, The Malibu Tribune. I suspect it is financed by Ozzie Silna who has been trying to be a big wheel here ever since he built a mansion on the property that was the home of the character, Max Amsterdam. The property is outside the city limits. Maybe he could get appointed to the California Coastal Commission in place of Sara Wan, another Malibu resident.

Every City Council has been an improvement. After they get elected they find how hard it is to represent Malibu. Almost all residents want to see the city as nice as when they arrived. Alas, we cannot go back to the glory days after World War II when you could buy a prime beach lot in Malibu for peanuts and you could live in the shack and pretend to be living on a South Sea island and still commute to work.

On the weekends, you never left home. You were surfing, swimming, fishing or soaking up the sun. If can’t be better than that. Anyone that runs for City Council has to be a dreamer or have a secret plan or an agenda. It isn’t for the money I’m sure. Every City Council member is for controlled or no growth. We don’t need the mansions that are built to the owner’s ego. Most of them are second homes to the rich and/or famous. What are they trying to prove? Private roads that keep the public out are mainly used by the homeowners or their employees, especially during the week. We don’t have people with maps to the movie star homes on every corner.

Quit abusing the candidates for City Council. They are mostly people who love Malibu.
