Hey, big spenders

Councilmember Barovsky and Mayor Stern fired two highly educated and dedicated planning commissioners about two years ago for allegedly “violating the Brown Act.” These same council members plus Jennings and Kearsley are now charged with violating the same Brown Act by three Superior Court judges and they refuse to step down. Moreover Mrs. Barovsky is pushing to circumvent the Council’s two-term limit.

The same City Council is now attempting to foist a $25 million Chili Cook-Off Legacy Park spin on the community. According to former Council Member Joan House (12/8/04) the cost of Chili Cook-Off land is “no more than a tax for all of Malibu to build a wastewater facility for the commercial, residential and beach properties in central Malibu.” Last year, the same council with City Attorney Hogin and City Manager Lichtig steering them, tried to push the community into another “lifetime opportunity” with “Measure M” (Bay Company Development Plan). The same team wasted a huge amount of money on an unsuccessful Local Coastal Plan effort and suing the Coastal Commission up to the State Supreme Court. The Barovsky-Stern reckless spending of city funds needs to stop.

How arrogant for this City Council to think the Malibu community is stupid enough to accept their convoluted spin on “Measure M” or overpriced “Legacy Park,” which is planned to be used as part of a sewer system. Recent victims of the Barovsky-Stern team are Regan Schaar and Ozzie Silna. Neither has been able to get a clear history and existing data on a Civic Center Specific Plan. A responsible council and staff would not allow the community to incur more debt before we have a clear, concise, citizen approved plan. Moreover we need a responsible council and staff to administer that plan. Our small City of Malibu is becoming the laughing stock of California cities.

It’s time for the Barovsky-Stern coalition to step down and make way for a sincere team with integrity who will be responsible stewards of our wetlands and the Chili Cook-Off site.
