The surfer who died in high surf near Malibu Pier on Tuesday morning has been identified as Silverio Laconsay, according to the LA County Department of Coroner.
Laconsay, a 54 year old male from Los Angeles, was surfing Tuesday morning in some of the roughest conditions seen this year at Surfrider Beach when something went wrong.
Despite the combined efforts of LA County Lifeguards, Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriffs, paramedics and fellow surfers, Laconsay passed away. As of 10 a.m. Friday, the cause of death has not been established, according to coroner’s officials.
The incident occurred during a National Weather Service surf advisory that lasted from Tuesday through Thursday of this week, after high winds and wave action from Hurricane Marie created rough conditions in the Pacific along the Southern California coast.
