For those habitual critics of the Malibu City Council now blaming the Council for “killing” the Coastal Commission staff review of the 2000 Draft of the Malibu Land Use Plan (LUP) prepared by a Malibu Citizens Committee and submitted by the City to the Commission staff in March 2000, I refer you to the reason for the early demise of the 2000 Draft provided by the Coastal Commission itself.
“. . .the city was informed verbally by the Commission staff that the document (the 2000 Draft) was not sufficient in detail or content to meet the requirement of the Coastal Act .” (See the last three lines of the last paragraph on Page 7 of the January 10, 2002 draft of the Local Coastal Program – Land Use Plan for Malibu prepared by the Commission and submitted to the city for its review.)
It is time to stop playing the blame game and concentrate our undivided attention on critiquing the most recent draft of the proposed coastal program for Malibu prepared by the Commission and currently being reviewed by the City.
