Four fireworks displays will be visible off the coast of Malibu in celebration of Independence Day in 2018—one on Sunday, July 1 and three on Wednesday, July 4.
As of Thursday, June 28, there is set to be one display off the coast at Carbon Beach/La Costa on July 1. On the Fourth of July, there will be three displays: One at Paradise Cove, one at the Malibu Colony and one at Broad Beach.
According to the City of Malibu Municipal Code, displays are to take place no earlier than sunset and must conclude by 10 p.m. All displays originate on barges in the ocean off the Malibu coast.
In previous years, issues have arisen over the effect fireworks have on pets, including some pets running away from their homes. For tips on how to keep your pets safe during displays, see these tips from the Humane Society.
City codes also stipulate that fireworks of any kind are prohibited within city limits. More Independence Day information is available on the city website.
Fireworks permits are issued by the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
