Residents near Big Rock Drive will suffer temporary power loss beginning at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 28, as crews with Southern California Edison (SCE) perform routine maintenance and improvements through the evening, according to the City of Malibu.

Electrical power along the south side of Pacific Coast Highway should be restored by 6 a.m. after crews complete work on infrastructure, allowing expanded services to customers, according to SCE.

Motorists are advised to use caution during the planned outage hours as traffic signals may be affected during the repair project.

SCE offers the following suggestions to affected residents and businesses in the work area during the overnight maintenance:

-To prevent loss of data and/or damage, be sure to shut off or disconnect all sensitive electronic equipment, i.e. computers and fax machines, before the outage begins.

-Check security gates on how to operate them manually.

-This outage will affect alarm systems and may affect private phone systems. Alert security companies of this outage.

-If planning to operate an emergency generator, please notify SCE before the outage so steps can be taken to protect workers from possible electrical back feed. To notify SCE of a generator, call 888.759.6056.

-Business customers without a generator might consider renting a portable generator if needed. (Note: SCE cannot reimburse for this cost.)
