Calamigos Ranch founder J. Grant Gerson died on Thursday of last week. He was 92.
Gerson co-founded the Calamigos Ranch Camp with 15 acres of land in 1947. The Calamigos Ranch Camp remained open until 1984, providing a summer experience for nearly 14,000 children. Along the way, Gerson’s land blossomed to more than 130 acres of Malibu Wine Country that now plays host to banquets, large events, weddings and youth summer camps. Gerson’s son Glen now runs the property.
Gerson was born in Los Angeles and attended the UCLA. He also served in the Navy. He is survived by his wife Ruth, son Glen, grandsons Garrett and Garner, stepchildren Susan Morris, Steve and John Krohngold, and stepgrandchildren Dane and Carly Morris and Jeremy and Mariah Krohngold.
