The Malibu-based nonprofit organization School on Wheels will be hosting its second annual Malibu Golf Tournament Sept. 5. School on Wheels is hosting this event in memory of Brad Johanson.

Johanson, who died in May 2001, was a strong supporter of the School on Wheels program and a Malibu resident for 30 years. All proceeds gained from this event will go to School on Wheels.

School on Wheels has more than 1,000 volunteers across Los Angeles and Ventura counties. These volunteers carry books and supplies in their cars and travel to various homeless shelters to tutor homeless children. Each child gets one hour of tutoring each week.

This September, School on Wheels will be celebrating 10 years of helping homeless children keep education a priority.

The Malibu Golf Tournament, which will take place at Malibu Country Club, will be a day filled with tee prizes, raffle prizes, longest drive and closest to the hold contests, tournament awards, a silent auction and an awards dinner.

School on Wheels is looking for donations for the event.

“Local businesses are donating items for silent auctions and are also sponsoring a hole,” said School on Wheels Director of Operations Peter Lorber.

A hole can be sponsored for $200.

“We are grateful for any support we can get, ” Lorber said.

The organization’s Web site is at www. Schoolonwheels.org and its phone number is 310.589.2642.

The registration deadline for this event is Aug. 23. On the day of the event, registration starts at 12:15 p.m. and the shotgun start is at 1:15 p.m. This event is sponsored by the Kiwanis Charities of Malibu.
