There’s now one less place to buy tony swimsuit cover-ups and $800 caftans in Malibu, as Calypso St. Barth appears to have shut its doors for good. The once hot clothier for the “ladies who lunch” set is heading for bankruptcy court. The Country Mart location has had the lights on, but no one to mind the store for the past two weeks. A sign on the door asks those with questions to call its corporate offices; however, when The Malibu Times finally reached the number listed it was not office headquarters. The company that answered the phone alleged Calypso may have deliberately posted a wrong number. Other locations in Santa Monica, Marin and 30 others across the country also have their phone lines disconnected. The French clothing company with a beachy vibe started in 1992 with a celebrity-heavy clientele. Simple T-shirts often started at nearly $100.
